Well we just got done crowning a champion but it's never too early to start looking ahead. Who has the best odds of ousting the Classics in 2012?
1. Rayz (12-2) - Coming off a 2011 season that saw them dominate the regular season only to be jolted from the playoffs in the divisional round, the Rayz should be the favorite to walk away with the title in 2012. A line up featuring QB Rodgers, HB McCoy, HB R.Rice (3 of the top 5 picks in a redraft league) and the #1 overall pick should have him coming back almost as strong and in line to win the East and grab the #1 seed again. If I'm them I'm going all in for 2012 and try to build a team that will not only win GFFL BOWL VIII but have a shot at going 16-0. GFFL BOWL VIII favorites.
2. Copperheads (3-11) - I don't think people realize just how good this team is going to be. Projected keepers of HB Charles, HB Wells, and HB Gore all have potential to be HB1's and should at least be HB2's then add to the fact he has 4 1st round picks (2,6,7,12), 8 picks in the top 25, 11 picks in the top 36 his line up should be loaded and have the strongest depth we've ever seen in the GFFL. To put it into perspective here's something similar to what the Copperheads' line up could look like
QB E.Manning (2.15)
HB Charles
HB Wells
HB/WR Gore
WR Nicks (1.06)
WR Welker (1.02)
TE Hernandez (1.12)
BENCH WR AJ Green(1.07), HB Mendenhall(2.19), HB Sproles (2.23), WR Maclin (2.24)
Then add to that 3 3rd round picks and 2 4th round picks this is gonna be a championship caliber roster if Adam drafts well at all. I'd say book this team for a West Division title and double digit wins and a very good shot at a GFFL BOWL VIII title.
3. Kings (10-4) - 2 consecutive GFFL BOWL appearances, this team has potential to tie the Gators record of 3 consecutive GFFL BOWL appearances. They have great keeper prospects and a pretty strong draft featuring (1st(5th overall), (2) 2nds and a 3rd) he should easily put together a line up that will make the playoffs and compete with the Copperheads for the West. Could they follow up GFFL BOWL VI and VII appearances with a GFFL BOWL VIII appearance?
4. C.Falcons (10-4) - Okay so unlike prior years the West division is a juggernaut (besides the W.Dogz they suck). The C.Falcons will have sick keepers and they have (2) 1sts and (2) 3rds to go along with the rest of their picks. This will be a very strong team that can definitely put a trip to GFFL BOWL VIII as a realistic conquest. Three teams from the West should make the playoffs.
5. Classics (9-5) - Coming off a GFFL BOWL Championship the Classics will find their cupboard of draft picks pretty bare. They will however return two of the top runningbacks in the game and play in a weak division which is a formula to be back in the dance and once in the dance anything can happen so don't rule out the chance for a repeat.
6. Gators (6-8) - Coming off a disappointing 2011 and building for 2013 the Gators are caught in a rebuilding in between year in 2012. They can't really compete for the East with the Rayz this year but they should be good enough to lead the conversation for the 6 seed with Stafford, Megatron, and Graham. Only problem not many draft picks after the 1st round.
7. Ducks (6-7-1) - Newton, Cruz, Gronkowski few draft picks could challenge for the Central or Wildcard spot.
8. Panthers (6-8) - Need to build around Brees missing their 1st round pick in this years draft class but depending on how they draft could be strong wildcard competitor.
9. Pirates (9-5) - Not bad keepers especially if Murray continues to progress and if they draft well they could definitely make it back to back playoff appearances. This a franchise that is being built in the right direction and should be an annual competitor from here on out impressive job by Vogler cause when he got this franchise it was in shambles.
10. Deacons (5-8-1) - Excited to see what Phil will do in year 2 with a full draft and keepers he picked should have the most depth of all the Central teams and I wouldn't be shocked to see them make a serious run for that division.
11. Weiner Dogz (3-11) - What can you say except this owner really exhibited lethargic effort in 2011. Until the attitude changes and this owner starts caring again this team will be in the West division basement for years to come. Only bright side at least this team has most of their draft picks.
12. Purple Cobras (4-10) - After starting off 2011 3-0 and trading away the future they finished 1-10 and now have to begin a long rebuilding process without a few key draft picks in the next two years. I'm rooting for Jonny cause he's a great passionate owner who's had a string of bad luck.
